16 Killed in Uromi, Uproar, 100 Killed in Bokkos, Silence – Dele Farotimi

Nigerian lawyer and human rights advocate Dele Farotimi has sparked conversation on social media over what he described as a stark imbalance in public response to violent incidents across the country.

Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Farotimi pointed out the disparity in reactions following two tragic events. He wrote, “16 killed in Uromi: Uproar. 100 killed in Bokkos: Silence.” His comment contrasts the widespread outrage that followed the killing of 16 individuals in Uromi, Edo State, with the relatively subdued response to the killing of over 100 people in Bokkos, Plateau State.

He went further, condemning what he sees as selective empathy and moral inconsistency. “That annoying hypocrisy and double standards are the reason God looks at you as an idiot when you bother Him with prayers concerning Nigeria,” he said, expressing deep frustration with the nation’s collective conscience.

Farotimi’s post reflects broader concerns over regional and ethnic biases in how Nigerians react to violence and tragedy. In a follow-up remark, he added, “Me: if dem explain Nigeria give you, you come understand, you are either insane or insane,” a satirical jab at the complexity and contradictions that many feel define the country’s socio-political system.
