The police arrested two people in connection with the tragedy in Biogberu via Gwanara village, Baruten Local Government District, Kwara State, where 10 family members died after eating mixed local herbs. The incident occurred in a rural community last Friday but was reported on Tuesday.
The victims were a couple and their children and other relatives. According to the report, two villagers, Okosi Musa and Worugura Julin, provided Pennia Bonnie, a woman from Biogberu, Fulani camp, with a herbal mixture to treat her foot infection. It is said that he was instructed to ensure that all members of his family took the mixture to prevent the spread of the disease among them.
But after taking this mixture, all family members died one after another. The state police public relations officer Ajayi Okasanmi, who confirmed the incident, said that on Tuesday, an Ibrahim Bonny reported the incident to the police.
Okasanmi said police chief Mohammed Bagega had ordered a low-key investigation into the incident. He added that the suspect who provided the herbal mixture to the woman was assisting the police in the investigation.
