As Nigeria gradually moves toward the 2027 general elections, the Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has publicly declared its commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
In a show of unity and political determination, APC leaders in Abia have resolved to strengthen their campaign efforts to ensure the president remains in office beyond his current term. The pledge was made during a reconciliation meeting held on Thursday, April 10, at the Abuja home of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, where party members from different factions came together under a common cause.
Prominent figures in attendance included Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of State for Labour and Employment; Donatus Nwankpa, APC’s national welfare secretary; and Obinna Oriaku, a former finance commissioner in Abia. Their presence signaled a renewed focus on party cohesion and electoral strategy.
After the closed-door meeting that lasted nearly four hours, Senator Kalu, a former governor of Abia State, spoke to journalists, explaining that the gathering was in line with a directive from President Tinubu at a recent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting. According to Kalu, the president emphasized the importance of unity across all levels of the party.
Kalu stated: “My goodwill message to the people of Abia is that we have a president that has done first term and will be going for second term. If he is doing second term, Abia needs to also align to the centre because we cannot afford to be speaking differently.”
He added, “The consensus of the south east over 2027 is that the zone will do very well in supporting President Tinubu and I challenge them to mark my words.”
According to The Nation and Vanguard, the Abia APC’s endorsement is a strategic move to regain control of the state’s political machinery and position the party for victory not only in the presidential race but also in the governorship election.
