“After Failed Attempt”: Fubara Accuses Pro-Wike Lawmakers of Blocking Supreme Court Ruling

The administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara has accused the Martins Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly of obstructing the full implementation of a Supreme Court ruling on the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State.

The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson, alleged that the Assembly has deliberately stalled efforts to execute the court’s judgment. He claimed that the crisis began after the failed impeachment attempt on October 30, 2023.

In a statement released shortly after the Assembly issued a notice of gross misconduct against Governor Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, Johnson stated:

“It is widely known that members of the Martins Amaewhule-led Assembly have taken actions that prevent Governor Fubara from fully implementing the Supreme Court’s judgment regarding the prolonged political and legal battle.”

He further emphasized that despite the Supreme Court’s February 28, 2025 ruling, which contained unfavorable remarks on the defection of lawmakers, Governor Fubara remains committed to upholding the judgment.

Meanwhile, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has blamed Fubara for escalating the political crisis, stating that he would not interfere with the Rivers Assembly’s constitutional duties. Wike also accused Fubara of withholding salaries and allowances of the 27 pro-Wike lawmakers, worsening tensions within the state.

The crisis in Rivers has continued to deepen as both factions struggle for political dominance. While Wike’s Thanksgiving event in Rivers drew massive support, analysts believe Governor Fubara still holds significant influence within the state.
