Akpabio Declares Tinubu’s Second Term Secure Amid 2027 Election Preparations

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second term is assured, despite opposition efforts to challenge his re-election in 2027. Speaking during a special Iftar dinner organized by the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) in Abuja, Akpabio reaffirmed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)’s dominance and its preparedness for the next general election.

The event, which brought together top APC leaders, governors, National Assembly members, and key government officials, quickly transformed into a platform for political strategizing. Addressing the gathering, Akpabio declared that the APC would retain power and even expand its control across more states. His call for a public endorsement of Tinubu’s second term was met with resounding approval from attendees.

Akpabio’s remarks align with a broader trend of APC leaders actively rallying support for Tinubu’s continued leadership. In recent months, figures such as APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume have discouraged potential opposition candidates from contesting the presidency in 2027, signaling the party’s intention to consolidate power.

In a separate engagement, Akpabio also reinforced the importance of Kano State in the upcoming election. During a visit to Basheer Lado, the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, he asserted that Kano was already secured for the APC, given the influence of key figures such as Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and Ganduje. Their combined political strength, he argued, would ensure a decisive APC victory in the state.

Beyond electoral discussions, Akpabio praised Lado for fostering strong executive-legislative relations and maintaining confidentiality in government communications. He warned that leaks of sensitive information could harm national security and governance, underscoring the need for discretion in state affairs.

APC leaders are increasingly using high-profile events to promote what they describe as the achievements of Tinubu’s administration. At the Iftar gathering, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma emphasized the role of “political evangelism” in solidifying the party’s influence. He urged party members to actively highlight the government’s successes and dismissed opposition efforts to unseat Tinubu as futile.

Similarly, Minister of Budget and National Planning Atiku Bagudu and Finance Minister Wale Edun used the occasion to defend Tinubu’s economic policies, attributing recent improvements, including a reported decline in food prices, to the administration’s strategic planning.
