Angry traders in the timber market in Umuahia Ahiaeke Market have expressed their anger in the market by setting ablaze the market. It was gathered that vigilante tried to impose the 18000 annual levy imposed by the Abia state internal revenue board.
According to sources, the Vigilante tried locking the shops of those who refused yielding to the payment. This geared the Traders in the market and refused them from carrying such act and angrily burnt down the local Guard office situated at the market. This was as a result of one of the traders being killed and five others were injured
Vehicles weren’t left out and some damages were done to some vehicles
In the reaction of the Secretary to the State Government, Chris Ezem, he strongly condemned the act and commanded the incident should be investigated.
“The impunity of burning buildings and other public institutions must stop forthwith, as arson remains a very serious crime against the state and humanity, which attracts severe consequences under our laws”. He Said
