A prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Ayekooto Akindele, has shared his thoughts on the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State, offering what he believes is a practical solution for Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
In a post on his Facebook page, Ayekooto urged the governor to fully comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling, stating that adherence to the judgment is the key to ending the crisis. He advised Fubara to dismiss his commissioners and put a temporary hold on preparations for local government elections until his standoff with the State House of Assembly is resolved.
According to Ayekooto, the situation in Rivers does not have to escalate further. He recommended that Governor Fubara take the following steps: Remove officials whose appointments are under dispute, Pause all election-related activities, Engage in dialogue with the legislature to reach a peaceful resolution, then agree with the lawmakers on a new date for presenting the state budget.
Governor Fubara has repeatedly claimed that some Assembly members are intentionally obstructing his efforts to implement the court’s decision. However, the lawmakers have denied these allegations, insisting that the claims are unfounded.
