Assassination plot, other Natasha’s allegation against Akpabio

Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has leveled fresh allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, intensifying the ongoing tension between the two lawmakers. Representing Kogi Central, Natasha is currently serving a six-month suspension from the Senate, a consequence of what was officially described as her violation of the chamber’s rules during a plenary session.

Natasha previously accused Akpabio of sexual harassment, claiming her ordeal in the Senate began when she rejected his alleged advances. According to her, this rejection set off a series of retaliatory actions designed to silence and undermine her position.

The friction between Akpabio and Natasha escalated when she attempted to speak during a plenary session without occupying her designated seat. The Senate President refused to recognize her, sparking a confrontation that ultimately led to her suspension and the withdrawal of her official security.

Undeterred by her suspension, Natasha has continued to speak out. In a recent public address and media appearances, she expanded on her claims, accusing Akpabio of plotting to eliminate her politically—and physically.

While addressing her constituents at a rally in Ihima, Kogi Central, Natasha alleged that Senate President Akpabio had enlisted the help of former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello to orchestrate her assassination and facilitate a recall process against her.

She claimed that Akpabio had initially approached current Governor Ahmed Ododo with a similar request, but Ododo reportedly declined, allegedly telling him that such a move would fail because “the people are solidly behind her.”

The embattled senator also suggested that the recall effort launched against her was part of a political bargain between Akpabio and Yahaya Bello. However, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently dismissed the recall petition, citing failure to meet constitutional criteria.

In an interview on Channels TV, Natasha further alleged that Akpabio’s deal with Bello included plans to unseat her in the 2027 general elections. She stated that Akpabio and his allies are already strategizing to field a strong opposition candidate against her in the next senatorial race.

Despite the weight of these claims, Natasha appeared undeterred, saying, “2027 is still far away, and I’ll know how to handle it when the time comes.”
