Two out of four armed robbers were killed on Thursday night by police operatives following an attempt to snatch a Prado Jeep at gunpoint in the Jahi area of Abuja.
Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, disclosed this while parading the two arrested members of the robbery gang at the command headquarters in Abuja on Friday.
According to Igweh, the incident occurred around 10:45 pm when the four-man robbery gang engaged police operatives on crime prevention patrol in a fierce gun battle.
The robbers opened fire on sighting the police, leading to a gun duel that resulted in the neutralization of two suspects.
The police commissioner identified the deceased suspects as Joshua Godfrey (aka Dogo) and Abdulsalam Mamuda, both from Mabushi village. Two other suspects were arrested during the crossfire, and a blue Toyota Matrix operational vehicle with registration number BWR 626 JB was recovered from the robbers.
Further investigation led by the arrested suspects resulted in the recovery of another Toyota Corolla car with registration number RBC 743 AH, believed to have been snatched from an innocent resident.
