The National Service Ministry reportedly invited controversial Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi to question his comments in a recent Arise TV interview, saying that Nigerian soldiers aided in the bandits’ activities. According to the VOA Hausa language service, we monitored on Friday and our reporter picked up that the controversial Islamic cleric was summoned to the DSS office in Kaduna state.
However, Gumi’s spokesman, Tukur Mamu, rejected the allegations against Gumi in an interview with Voice of America, saying that nowhere in the television interview did Gumi explicitly criticize the entire military.
The spokesperson explained that what Gumi was talking about is that people have been saying, “Even the soldiers have been saying that there may be some bad guys among them.”
