Registered voters in the Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency of Enugu State have officially launched a recall process against their representative in the House of Representatives, Martins Oke. The petition, dated March 27, 2025, has been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), outlining various grievances against the lawmaker.
According to the petitioners, including Ugwuagbo Emmanuel Chizoba, Clinton Ogbonna, Sabinus Amah, and Stephen Okenwa, Oke’s alleged lack of performance and absence from key legislative activities prompted their decision. They expressed frustration over his perceived failure to sponsor meaningful bills, implement constituency projects, or actively participate in parliamentary sessions.
The petitioners further claimed that Oke was not the rightful choice of the constituents but was imposed as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate against the will of party members. They also alleged that he lost the general election by a wide margin but was declared the winner by the Appeal Court on technical grounds.
Beyond legislative inactivity, the petitioners accused Oke of being disconnected from his constituents, stating that he lacks a functional constituency office and has never held a town hall meeting to engage with the people he represents. They stressed that their recall process follows constitutional provisions, with at least 50% of registered voters signing the petition as required by law.
