BREAKING: Tinubu Minister, Wike Approves New Minimum Wage for FCT Workers

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, has approved the N70,000 as the new minimum wage for administration staff in the nation’s capital.

Wike approved the payment of the N70,000 minimum wage on Monday, November 18, 2024.

The Press Secretary to the Head of the Civil Service of the FCT, Anthony Odeh, made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday, November 19, The Punch reports.

Odeh explained that Wike announced the new minimum wage to ameliorate the plight of FCTA workers.

This is coming after the FCT Chapters of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) threatened to shut down activities on November 30, 2024, over failure to implement the new minimum wage.

The Acting Head of Civil Service of FCT, Mrs Grace Adayilo, revealed that Wike also approved payment of three months’ arrears for all staff of the administration with effect from November 2024.

Adayilo said the move was part of Wike’s commitment to the welfare and well-being of the staff.

“This gesture will further spur the entire administration staff to support the minister in continuing to deliver on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
