Edo Lynching: Northern Elders Issue Ultimatum, Demand Justice

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has issued a strong warning to both the Edo State and federal governments over the recent killing of northern travelers in Uromi. The forum has outlined three key demands, insisting that failure to comply within two weeks will lead to serious consequences.

In a statement released over the weekend, NEF spokesperson Professor Abubakar Jiddere condemned the attack, describing it as unacceptable. The group insisted on a transparent and public prosecution of all individuals involved in the brutal killing of 16 northern travelers. According to the forum, those responsible must be held accountable to prevent future occurrences.

Additionally, NEF called for a formal apology from both the Edo State government and the people of Uromi. They stressed that such acts of violence must never be repeated, urging the authorities to make a firm commitment to preventing future attacks.

The third demand by the forum is compensation for the families of the victims. NEF emphasized that payments should be made in accordance with religious and legal standards to provide some measure of justice to the bereaved families.

The statement further warned that the northern region has endured enough hostility and would no longer tolerate such acts. The elders urged swift action from the government, warning that failure to meet their demands within 14 days could lead to serious repercussions.
