A disturbing audio has emerged of a man threatening a protest in Nigeria while making demands of the federal government.
In the audio, which originated from X, the man speaking to hundreds who joined the conversation on Space said that everything that emerged from the 2023 general elections will be wiped out.
He was quoted in the audio saying, “What you saw in 2023 is child’s play compared to what is coming.”
“We don’t care about Peter Obi, we don’t care about Atiku Abubakar. We will change the Senate and everything that came with this government. Everything that came with the 2023 elections will be undone. If one person dies in this, and let me tell you, this protest is not something we will do for a week and then leave, we will fight to the end,” the unidentified person threatened.
“You see the way we are discussing the protest now, very soon, 50,000 Nigerians will be in Space from all over the world. The funding will be there, the lawyers will be there, if you arrest anyone, they will be released and the lawyers will be ready to handle the court case,” he added in excerpts of the recording that has gone viral.
While the audio has generated mixed reactions on social media, Isaac Fayose, a political commentator and brother of a former Ekiti Governor, labeled the protest as an “Obedient protest.” According to him, the planned protest for later this month is not against anyone in power but to “demand change” from the federal government regarding the “current hardships” plaguing Nigerians.
Daily Post reported that Nigeria’s youth are planning a nationwide protest beginning from August 1-10, 2024.
The protest, which has gained traction in the north and other parts of the country, will take place in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
While some of the organizers, particularly from the northern region, remain anonymous, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, has been campaigning for the August protest via his social media handles.
Sowore, who has led several protests in the country, said the revolution would start in August, insisting that “Nothing Can Stop An Idea Whose Time Has Come” #RevolutionNOW.”
Sowore wrote: “The REVOLUTION is now knocking on our doors! #RevolutionNow. Let everyone rise together in August 2024!
“Nothing can stop an idea whose time has come.”
