Ex-Rivers Head of Service Accuses Fubara of Sponsoring Pipeline Attacks, House of Assembly Arson

Former Rivers State Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, has made shocking allegations against the suspended governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara, claiming that he orchestrated recent attacks on oil installations and was responsible for the burning of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja following his resignation, Nwaeke asserted that Fubara directed his former Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, to set fire to the Assembly complex in a desperate move to prevent his impeachment. He further alleged that the governor had planned to demolish the residential quarters of lawmakers but was stopped by public outcry.

According to Nwaeke, Fubara’s actions posed a serious threat to the state’s stability, prompting President Bola Tinubu’s intervention through the declaration of a state of emergency. He insisted that the decision by the National Assembly to uphold the emergency rule saved Rivers State from descending into chaos.

“The governor’s suspension was necessary to prevent the worst form of economic sabotage Nigeria has ever seen,” Nwaeke stated. “As someone who worked closely with him, I know the inner workings of his administration. The House of Assembly complex was deliberately set ablaze under his directives, and I was present when a bag of money was handed over to execute the operation.”

Nwaeke also alleged that Fubara was involved in a broader scheme to destabilize oil production in the Niger Delta, claiming that the governor and certain Ijaw leaders had plotted to sabotage oil facilities to exert political influence at the national level.

“The plan was to first attack non-Ijaw-speaking areas such as Ogoni and Ahoda before moving to Ijaw territories to make the crisis appear widespread,” he claimed. “This strategy was intended to create national instability, weaken the federal government, and push for a new political order favoring their interests.”

He further accused the governor of using state resources to fund political allies and militant groups, stating that large sums of money were regularly disbursed during secret meetings.

Nwaeke called on security agencies to investigate these claims, urging stakeholders to support the emergency rule to prevent further destruction in Rivers State.

Meanwhile, Governor Fubara has dismissed the allegations as politically motivated, questioning why Nwaeke, who had once been part of his administration, would suddenly turn against him.
