Reports circulating on social media claiming that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, collapsed during a meeting and was urgently flown to France for medical attention have been confirmed as false.
The rumors suggested that Wike suffered a partial stroke caused by excessive alcohol consumption. However, an investigation has revealed that the claims are baseless, with no evidence supporting the allegations.
Lere Olayinka, Wike’s media aide, dismissed the claims, stating that the minister was actively engaged in his official duties on the day in question. Olayinka further confirmed that Wike was inspecting multiple projects in the FCT until late in the evening, proving that the reports of his collapse were fabricated.
In a post on social media, Olayinka sarcastically mocked the false claims, stating, “Spirit Wike was inspecting projects till 5 pm while in their so-called coma and hospital.” He urged the public to disregard the rumors and avoid spreading misinformation.
Contrary to the viral reports, Wike was seen visiting various project sites, including the 15-kilometer left-hand service carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) and the 16-kilometer Inner Northern Expressway (INEX). He also attended an official event at the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal and received an Award of Recognition from the Body of Benchers in Abuja.
During the award presentation, Wike expressed his gratitude, stating, “Happy to have been honored with an Award of Recognition by the Body of Benchers during their courtesy visit to my office today.”
The evidence overwhelmingly disproves the allegations that Wike collapsed or was flown to France for medical attention. The minister was seen carrying out his official responsibilities throughout the day, engaging with various stakeholders, and inspecting ongoing infrastructural projects.
Authorities urge the public to be cautious about spreading unverified information, emphasizing the need to rely on credible sources for news.
