FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, has finally taken note of Enugu Rangers as the champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) over three weeks after winning the title.
Recall that Enugu Rangers became the champions of the 2023-2024 NPFL campaign on matchday 37, a week to the end of the season following their home victory over Bendel Insurance on June 16.
On the last day of the campaign, June 23, the Flying Antelopes beat relegated Gombe United 1-2 away from home to finish the campaign with 70 points in 38 games.
They won the league ahead of the second-placed Remo Stars who finished the campaign with 65 points in 38 games, and third-placed Enyimba of Aba who finished the campaign with 63 points in 38 games.
For winning the league, the Nigeria Premier Football League presented a grand prize of 150 million naira to them. Aside from that, they are expected to represent Nigeria in the 2024-2025 CAF Champions League.
While the 8 times NPFL champions are preparing for the forthcoming season, they got a mention from the FIFA president.
Gianni Infantino took to his Instagram story on Thursday, July 4, to post a picture of Enugu Rangers celebrating the triumph.
In the caption, the FIFA president wrote: “Congratulations Rangers International FC on being crowned 2023-24 champions of Nigeria.”
