The Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity confirmed the death of an outstanding Commissioner who died after he suffed serious injuries in an auto crash.

The Governor of Ebonyi State has declared Wednesday, June 23, 2021, as a Public Holiday in honour of the departed former member of the State Executive Council.

It was gathered in a statement made by the special assistant to Governor David Umahi that the immediate past Commissioner for Works and Transport in Ebonyi State, Engineer Fidelis Nweze died at the Turkish Hospital Abuja on Tuesday morning, June 22 after an injury he suffered in an auto crash earlier the week. Engr Fidelis was travelling to Enugu on Saturday morning with his driver and orderly. At Obunagu in Enugu state, they crashed into a stationary truck.

Engr Fidelis Nweze

Engr Fidelis Nweze is known to be the man behind the many infrastructural developments recorded in Ebonyi State in the last six years.

To this end, the Governor has directed that all offices and markets should be closed while all flags are to fly at half mast on Wednesday, June 23rd 2021 across the State.

The Governor also informed all Government officials to proceed on fasting to seek the face of God in the Affairs of the State While CAN is charged to organize Prayers to break the fast by 4pm at Christian Ecumenical Centre every day, starting from Wednesday, June 23 to Saturday, June 26, 2021.

All Government officials are enjoined to participate in all the activities. The Governor prays for peaceful repose of the souls of the fallen former Exco members.
