Fubara To Wike: I Control This State, And 2027 Is Mine If I Choose To Pursue It

According to Channels TV, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has made it clear that he is in charge of the state’s politics, pushing back against his former mentor, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Fubara’s firm stance came after the Supreme Court dismissed his case against Wike’s faction in the Rivers State House of Assembly and imposed a N4 million fine.

On Tuesday, during a solidarity visit from leaders of the Kalabari Ethnic Nationality, Fubara confidently declared that his focus is on governance and development, not just securing a second term. He pointed to the N200 billion Trans-Kalabari road project as an example of his commitment to improving infrastructure in the region.

Fubara’s remarks come amid a growing rivalry between him and Wike. Once allies, the two have become political foes, with Fubara now challenging Wike’s influence in the state. This tension reached a peak on February 10, when the Supreme Court rejected Fubara’s appeal against the pro-Wike lawmakers, and ordered him to pay a fine.

However, Fubara appeared unfazed by the ruling, stating that the legal issue had little relevance since the 2024 budget cycle had ended. Political analyst Kelly Agaba weighed in, advising Wike to accept the court’s decision and recognize Fubara as the true leader of Rivers politics. Agaba also praised Fubara for standing up against Wike’s “godfather” politics and asserting his independence.

This ongoing clash between Fubara and Wike is shaping up to be a significant political battle in Rivers State, as Fubara continues to establish himself as the dominant figure in the state’s leadership.
