Pastor Stephen Akinola, the senior supervisor of the Global Redemption Ministry, has passed away. BBC Pidgin reported that the popular Port Harcourt pastor died in an undisclosed hospital in Abuja in the early hours of Sunday, June 6.

It is reported that Akinola underwent a kidney transplant a few months ago, but the cause of death has not yet been determined. It is said that when the news broke, members of his congregation had rushed to the church headquarters in Port Harcourt to mourn the famous priest.

Former Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria as well as former Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Rivers State, Apostle Eugene Ogu confirmed Akinola’s demise on Sunday.

“Yes, it is a very sad day for the Christian community. While we were still talking of Prophet TB Joshua, Akinola’s death happened”, he said.

Akinola, 68, is a native of Igboho, Oyo State.
