Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has applauded the Supreme Court’s decision to remove Julius Abure and his National Working Committee (NWC) from leading the Labour Party, stating that the judgment is a positive step toward restoring unity within the party.
Reacting to the ruling, Governor Otti remarked that the court’s decision affirmed the legitimacy of the newly constituted National Caretaker Committee (NCC), led by Esther Nenadi Usman as Chairperson and Darlington Nwokocha as Secretary. He explained that Abure’s leadership tenure had ended, making the establishment of a caretaker committee both necessary and timely.
Otti emphasized that the caretaker body was set up to foster reconciliation and stability across the party’s ranks. He also stressed the importance of consolidating electoral gains and reinforcing the party’s internal structures.
Praising the Supreme Court for what he described as a thoughtful and fair ruling, the governor noted that the verdict aligns with the expectations of sincere party members and many Nigerians. He expressed gratitude to loyal supporters who stood by the party through the recent leadership crisis.
Additionally, Governor Otti extended an olive branch to former national officers, encouraging them to collaborate with the newly constituted leadership to move the party forward. He reaffirmed his commitment to a more inclusive and transparent Labour Party, where all members have a voice.
