Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has strongly dismissed calls for a state of emergency in the state, labeling them as politically motivated attempts to disrupt his administration.
The controversy began after the Centre for Judicial Integrity (CJI) accused the governor of attempting to compromise the judiciary. However, Alia, through his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, refuted the claims as baseless.
“There is no crisis in Benue State. Governor Hyacinth Alia is fully in charge and committed to good governance,” Kula stated.
He further alleged that those advocating for a state of emergency were politically frustrated individuals attempting to destabilize the state for their personal gains.
According to Kula, the calls for emergency intervention in Benue are “a flagrant display of political opportunism.”
“It is evident that these disgruntled political operatives are being sponsored by unscrupulous factions eager to exploit any situation for their advantage,” he said.
The governor’s media aide added that the accusations were part of a smear campaign by “political elements in Abuja” attempting to tarnish Alia’s reputation.
Kula emphasized that Governor Alia’s leadership is focused on transformational governance that prioritizes the welfare of Benue residents.
“The inhabitants of Benue are happy and supportive of their governor, praying daily for his success and the continued progress of the state,” he stated.
He also dismissed claims that the governor had attempted to influence the judiciary, challenging the Centre for Judicial Integrity to provide concrete evidence or face the consequences of spreading false allegations.
“Governor Alia has no wealth to corrupt anyone, especially not an esteemed institution like the judiciary. His responsibility remains to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law,” Kula added.
Alia’s administration insists that there is no justifiable reason for a state of emergency, urging detractors to stop spreading misinformation.
“The people of Benue deserve better than the disruptive ploys and fabricated allegations that threaten their progress,” Kula concluded.
