As the 2024 U.S. presidential election approaches, details have emerged about past political donations made by Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump to the campaign of Kamala Harris, the expected Democratic nominee and current Vice President.
These revelations have added a surprising twist to the forthcoming election narrative.
Records from the California Secretary of State indicate that Trump made two contributions to Harris’s re-election campaign when she served as California’s Attorney General.
Harris held the position from 2011 until her election to the U.S. Senate in 2017. According to the records, Trump donated $5,000 in 2011 and an additional $1,000 in 2013.
Furthermore, in 2014, Trump’s daughter Ivanka Trump also made a $2,000 donation to Harris’s campaign.
These contributions are not a recent revelation. The news of Trump’s donations to Harris first gained traction in 2020 when Joe Biden selected Harris as his running mate.
The contributions were made as a courtesy to New York’s former top prosecutor, Eric Schneiderman, who hosted a fundraiser for Harris in September 2011.
Michael Steele, former chair of the Republican National Committee, humorously commented on the irony of the situation, stating, “So when Trump wrote that check to re-elect Kamala Harris in 2011, I bet he didn’t think she’d cash it in 2024!”
