“I Am Still A Full-fledged Member” – Kenneth Okonkwo Denies Leaving Labour Party

Veteran Nollywood actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has vehemently denied recent reports claiming that he has left the Labour Party (LP).

In an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time Programme on Tuesday, Okonkwo clarified that he remains a committed member of the party.

“I am embarrassed by the suggestion that I have left the Labour Party. This is the first time I’m hearing such a claim from your media station,” Okonkwo said.

He added: “I made a statement to ensure there was no misunderstanding, and it certainly did not indicate that I had abandoned the Labour Party. I am still a full-fledged member.”

When asked directly if he remains with the Labour Party, Okonkwo affirmed, “Yes, absolutely.”

Okonkwo addressed internal issues within the party, noting that while there is no crisis concerning his position, he expressed concerns over the Labour Party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

“There’s a crisis within the NWC related to their failure to organize an all-inclusive convention.

“The leader should have taken decisive action to address the situation, especially after the convention did not proceed as instructed,” he said.

The actor had previously announced his dissatisfaction with Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, citing concerns about Obi’s leadership style and effectiveness in addressing national issues.

Okonkwo criticized Obi’s ability to secure electoral victories and his approach to confronting Nigeria’s systemic problems.

“I needed a leader who is decisive, bold, and possesses integrity and team spirit to achieve the vision I have for Nigeria,” Okonkwo stated.

Despite his earlier criticisms, Okonkwo declared that his commitment to the Labour Party remains intact and that he continues to support the party’s goals and initiatives.
