The founder of Stanbic IBTC, Atedo Peterside, has appealed to the protesting #EndBadGovernance protesters to end their protest in the interest of poor Nigerians.
Peterside submitted that poor Nigerians could no longer bear the weight of the protest, adding that the more the protest lingers, the more likelihood that hoodlums would hijack it.
He told the youths that they have proven their points and made their voice heard, and it is time to go home.
Peterside noted that the President has heard the demands of the protesters, and it is time to give room for implementation. He added that if their demands are not met, the protesters can regroup and make a fresh push.
“You have shaken Nigeria to the core and dispelled the falsehood that many of our youths are not politically active and/or do not care to demand good governance,” Peterside wrote on his X account on Sunday.
“I beg you in the name of God to please call off the protest now. In the aftermath of #EndSars, I explained that any mass street action that goes on for more than a few days will be infiltrated and overtaken by hoodlums.
“Please end the protests today (Sunday). Poor Nigerians cannot endure protests for more than a few days. You have made your point. Your massive turnout has frightened many people. FG is not deaf.
“The President has spoken this morning. Perhaps even the Legislators have heard you also.
“If they collectively fail to significantly reduce the cost of governance, stop wasteful expenditures and tighten their own belts or lead by example, please then re-strategise, regroup and call them to order again,” he added.
Naturenex reports the nationwide protest against economic hardship and bad leadership kicked off on Thursday, 1st August.
The protest, however, became marred with violence in some states.
On Sunday, President Bola Tinubu addressed Nigerians in a nationwide broadcast in which he appealed for an end to the protests and explained the decisions of his government.
