“I Will Be Free Soon” – Nnamdi Kanu Speaks

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has expressed strong confidence in securing his release this April after spending four years in detention.

Kanu made this declaration while speaking to the President-General of the Igbo Community Association (ICA) in Abuja, Engr. Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, during a visit at the Department of State Services (DSS) facility, where he is currently being held.

Following the visit, Ezenekwe released a statement revealing that Kanu remains optimistic despite his prolonged incarceration. He described Kanu as being in good spirits, healthier, and determined in his pursuit of self-determination.

“Kanu reaffirmed his belief in the call for a referendum as the path to self-determination. He insisted that he has committed no crime other than urging his people to wake up to their rights,” the statement read.

He also expressed disappointment over what he described as a lack of strong Igbo leadership advocating for his release. He urged the Igbo community to step up efforts in championing their collective interests.

Ezenekwe emphasized that Kanu remains unwavering in his faith in his legal team and his hope for freedom by the end of April 2025.

Additionally, he called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive action in ensuring Kanu’s release, stating that doing so would demonstrate a commitment to justice and national unity.

“This is an appeal to President Tinubu to act in the spirit of democracy and justice, just as he once fought for his own rights. Freeing Nnamdi Kanu would mark a significant step toward healing and fostering unity,” Ezenekwe concluded.
