This was stated by Umahi on Thursday during an enlarged security council meeting aimed at resolving the state’s raging insecurity.

David Umahi, governor of Ebonyi State, has urged youths in the state to defend themselves against herdsmen attacks.

This was stated by Umahi on Thursday during an enlarged security council meeting aimed at resolving the state’s raging insecurity.

The governor acknowledged that herders armed with AK-47s had sent several threat messages threatening to attack the state.

As a result, the governor urged the people of the state to always be prepared to confront them.

“We have received threats from herders wielding AK-47s, who have sent text messages to Ebonyi State threatening to attack us.

“As a people, we have resolved to confront anyone, whether he is a herder or a criminal, who comes into the state with the intent to kill, or anyone who comes into the state with the intent to assault.

“Protect yourself in every nook and cranny of the state; confront anyone who wishes to kill our people.” Look for a stick if the people want to kill with it. Don’t wait for security to arrive; instead, protect yourself at all hours of the day and night.

“Create your vigilante. Ebubeagu, as the local government, must do everything possible to protect the people.

“No more need to be afraid. If they write you and say they’re coming, tell them to come because that’s our position.

“The traditional rulers, our leaders in the areas where the ring roads will be built, have assured us of adequate security.

“Where there is no one alive, traditional rulers and their representatives, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) leadership, councillors, and leaders should form a very united committee to resolve all communal crises and maintain peace in their areas.”

“Once again, Ebonyi State is not opposed to any alleged agitation for any injustice, whether at the family, state, regional, or national levels.

“However, as a state, we have resolved not to allow any form of violent agitation in the state, as well as attacks on security agencies, people, restrictions on movement, freedom of movement, or attacks on any of our infrastructure.

“We demand that any alleged agitation or injustice be compiled and given to state leaders so that they can address it with the leadership at the center,” he said.
