“It’s unfair” – Buhari’s aide laments ‘ill-treatment’ of El-Rufai by APC chieftains

Bashir Ahmad, former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has voiced concerns over the treatment of Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, former Governor of Kaduna State, after the 2023 general elections.

In a tweet on Monday, Ahmad criticized certain quarters for disregarding el-Rufai’s significant contributions to the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The treatment Mallam Nasir el-Rufai has been receiving since after the 2023 general election from some quarters is not only unfair but also disregards the critical role he played in the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC),” Ahmad stated.

El-Rufai was a central figure in the APC’s strategy during the 2023 elections.

Despite his contributions, el-Rufai has reportedly been sidelined by some factions within the APC. This treatment, Ahmad argues, is not only unjust but also undermines the party’s unity and strength.

Responding to a comment by one of his followers that the recent squabbles involving el-Rufai is about the 2031 elections, Ahmed wrote:

“You are not entirely incorrect but the calculation must be wrong somewhere. You know El-Rufai will be more needed in 2027 than he was in 2023, so we should not even be discussing 2031 unless 2027 is secured.”
