JUST IN: FG Hits Meta With $220m Fine For Data Privacy Breach

The Federal Government through the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has slapped a $220 million fine on Meta, the parent company of WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram, for alleged data privacy breaches.

According to a statement released on Friday, the commission found Meta guilty of several violations, including denying Nigerians control over their personal data, unauthorized sharing and transfer of Nigerian data, including storage outside the country, discriminatory treatment of Nigerian users, abuse of market dominance, unfair bundling of services.
