JUST IN: PDP Governors Back Fubara, Snub Wike in Rivers Crisis, Issue Demands

Governors under the aegis of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have thrown their weight behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara in the political crisis in Rivers State.

The governors, in a communiqué issued after their meeting in Enugu on Wednesday, declared their support for Fubara, who has been at odds with his political mentor, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Naturenex reports that the crisis has led to a factionalized State House of Assembly, with many questioning the leadership of the PDP for its silence.

“The Forum has resolved to stand by His Excellency, Sir Sim Fubara, Governor of Rivers State; while at the same time employ wider consultations with stakeholders for a peaceful resolution and thus find a lasting solution to the crises,” the communique read.

The governors also lamented the erosion of the progress made during the 16 years of PDP-led federal government, citing single-digit inflation, established anti-corruption institutions, and improved standards of living. They blamed the current APC-led government for the country’s woes, promising to restore the “good old days” of low inflation, affordable food, fuel, and transportation, as well as steady foreign investment and a strong naira.

The Forum commended PDP-controlled states for their innovative governance approaches, particularly in infrastructure, education, health, women, and youth initiatives. They urged Nigerians to refrain from anarchy as they work towards the return of the PDP to power in 2027.

The governors also thanked Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, for hosting the meeting and holding the party together in the South Eastern geo-political zone.
