Lafarge Was The Only Cement Factory Before We Came, And Nobody Called Them A Monopoly – Dangote

Lafarge Was The Only Cement Factory Before We Came, And Nobody Called Them A Monopoly – Dangote

Aliko Dangote, Nigeria’s renowned billionaire and business magnate, has forcefully addressed criticisms accusing him of monopolizing various sectors of the Nigerian economy. In a recent video shared by Channels Television, Dangote refuted claims that his business practices harm the country’s economic landscape.

Dangote emphasized that he has never prevented any Nigerian from entering the same business sectors as him. He asserted that the Nigerian government has not provided his companies with any unfair advantages over other businesses. To illustrate his point, Dangote revealed that his company paid $100 million for the land used to build a refinery in Lagos, albeit acknowledging that the Lagos government offered a favorable deal.

Challenging his critics, Dangote urged those interested in similar business ventures to take action. He encouraged potential competitors to secure capital and establish companies, even suggesting they could build on their family land if necessary. This statement underscores his belief in open competition and entrepreneurship.

The business tycoon stressed that the federal government’s treatment of Dangote Group is no different from its treatment of other companies. In fact, he claimed that some businesses have received more support than his own. This assertion aims to dispel notions of preferential treatment or unfair advantages.

Dangote highlighted the positive impact of his business empire on Nigeria’s economy, citing the creation of thousands of jobs and significant contributions to economic growth. He expressed bewilderment at accusations of monopoly, arguing that he is simply conducting business and creating value for the country.

Drawing a parallel with the cement industry, Dangote pointed out that when Lafarge was the sole cement producer in Nigeria, there were no monopoly accusations. However, when Dangote Cement entered the market, critics began voicing concerns about market dominance.

Reiterating his stance, Dangote maintained that he is not obstructing anyone from doing business, nor is the government providing him with unfair advantages. He challenged his accusers to invest in the sectors they claim he monopolizes, assuring them that the government would offer the same support it extends to his companies.
