A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Badagry, Lagos State, has fixed April 24 for the sentencing of Adeniyi Bashiru, who has admitted to stealing property belonging to a school and valued at more than N1.1 million.
The defendant was charged with a single count of theft, filed by the police.
During the hearing, Inspector Edet Ekpo, the police prosecutor, told the court that the crime occurred around midnight on March 27.
According to the prosecution, Bashiru unlawfully entered the school premises and made away with several items, including 20 aluminum roofing sheets valued at N300,000, seven ceiling fans estimated at N380,000, and a computer central processing unit (CPU) worth N420,000.
All the stolen items were said to be the property of Margaret Adasa, who is the complainant in the case.
Following his plea, Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni ordered that Bashiru be held in custody at the Awhajigoh Correctional Centre in Badagry. The court then adjourned the case to April 24 for the presentation of case facts and formal sentencing.
