A prominent Lagos community leader, Chief Babalola Shabi, who serves as the Baale of Kirikiri Town, has accused prison officials of accepting bribes in exchange for granting special privileges to social media influencer Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, during his time at Kirikiri Correctional Facility.
According to Naija News, the accusation surfaced during a town hall event held on Saturday by the Lagos State Police Command as part of the National Police Week activities.
Chief Shabi, also known locally as “Baale No-Nonsense,” claimed that Bobrisky smuggled eight ATM cards into prison and used them to make multiple transactions through local Point of Sale (POS) agents. He alleged that a total of ₦35 million was transferred to secure luxurious treatment within or even outside the prison.
The traditional ruler asserted that Bobrisky was not housed within the standard prison quarters, but instead stayed in a private apartment allegedly arranged through a network of corrupt prison personnel.
“People believed Bobrisky was serving his term like every other inmate, but in reality, he was enjoying freedom in a private apartment thanks to a group of compromised officials,” Shabi stated.
Shabi explained that he took it upon himself to investigate when he noticed suspicious activities around POS vendors in the community. He claimed to have invited the operators to his palace, which ultimately led to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) launching a probe into the financial trail.
“After I summoned the POS agents and obtained details of the transactions, I handed everything over to the EFCC, who then took action,” he said.
The Baale alleged that prison officers directly contacted POS operators to facilitate cash withdrawals from the influencer’s ATM cards. He said the large sum and the ease with which it was handled pointed to an organized network involving multiple actors.
“Retrieving ₦35 million within a short period raises serious concerns. This was clearly not a solo operation,” he noted.
Shabi added that the apartment where Bobrisky was reportedly kept has since been demolished. He also mentioned being questioned by both the Department of State Services (DSS) and the EFCC as part of ongoing investigations.
“The DSS questioned me first, and later the EFCC reached out. I gave full details and cooperated. As a traditional leader, it’s my duty to confront misconduct in our community,” he emphasized.
