A fatal accident yesterday claimed at least seven lives on Okigwe-Owerri road very close to the Imo State University (IMSU) junction, Owerri.
A source who narrated how the accident happened said that it occurred around 7:00 p.m when a trailer allegedly running on one-way failed brake and rammed into a six-seater commuter bus loaded with passengers.
The trailer was said to have crushed the passengers in the bus while some people who were standing on the roadside were seriously injured.
“We don’t know exactly what happened, but we just had a loud noise and we rushed to the scene, we saw the victims trapped inside the bus, some people said the trailer was on a one-way and failed its brake and rammed into the bus.
“ It’s a gory site, we have to start pulling the victims trapped inside the vehicle, some of them died immediately,” the source said.
It would be recalled that similar incidents have occurred on that very spot last year and some years back.
