MTN Nigeria has announced the commencement of applications for the fourth edition of its Media Innovation Programme (MIP), a six-month fellowship designed to enhance the skills of journalists, broadcasters, bloggers, and content creators. The initiative, launched in partnership with the School of Media and Communication (SMC) at Pan-Atlantic University, will begin on May 19, 2025, and includes an international study visit to the University of Johannesburg, South Africa.
The programme aims to equip media professionals with a deeper understanding of the evolving media landscape and its intersection with technology. According to MTN Nigeria’s Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer, Tobe Okigbo, the initiative has had a significant impact since its launch in 2022, empowering participants with the knowledge and tools to drive innovation in media reporting.
“The success of the past three editions has been inspiring. This initiative continues to provide a platform for journalists and content creators to explore the dynamic relationship between media and technology,” Okigbo stated.
Dean of SMC, Dr. Ikechukwu Obiaya, emphasized the programme’s role in shaping the next generation of media professionals. He highlighted that creativity, ethics, and technological adaptation are essential for navigating today’s fast-evolving media space.
“In a rapidly changing industry, it is crucial to cultivate professionals who can leverage media and technology to tell impactful stories. Our faculty will provide mentorship and practical insights to ensure participants gain valuable skills,” he said.
The programme is open to journalists, broadcasters, digital content creators, and bloggers from across Nigeria. Selected applicants, known as Fellows, will gain hands-on training in Nigeria’s technology sector, content creation strategies, and media-business models. They will also receive access to professional resources and mentorship from experienced media practitioners.
Applications open on March 24, 2025, and close on April 7, 2025. Interested candidates can apply through the MTN Nigeria website.
This initiative underscores MTN’s commitment to supporting media professionals in adapting to the digital era while fostering innovation in storytelling and journalism.
