Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has alleged that former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello is behind the ongoing efforts to recall her from office.
Despite a government-imposed ban on rallies and processions, Natasha was met with a large turnout of supporters across the five local government areas of Kogi Central on Tuesday. The event, held in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area, defied restrictions, highlighting the strong backing she enjoys from her constituents.
In a statement on Wednesday, Natasha accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of working alongside Bello to orchestrate the recall using individuals she described as fake constituents. She challenged Bello to provide proof of the legitimacy of those calling for her removal.
She linked the recall efforts to previous attacks allegedly sponsored by Bello before and during the 2023 general elections, asserting that this was just another chapter in his long-standing political vendetta against her.
Natasha further stated that rather than focusing on undermining her mandate, the former governor should concentrate on defending himself against corruption allegations, particularly accusations involving the misappropriation of ₦89.2 billion.
“All available facts indicate that Yahaya Bello is the driving force behind this recall attempt,” she said. “Instead of trying to destabilize the people’s mandate, he should be concerned with clearing his name over the corruption allegations against him.”
She emphasized that despite numerous attempts to suppress her political influence, her supporters have remained steadfast. According to her, the recall effort has only strengthened her popularity while diminishing the credibility of those behind it.
“The people of Kogi Central have spoken—they reject injustice, they reject the exploitation of women, and they reject this fake recall process,” Natasha stated.
She expressed gratitude to her constituents for their unwavering support and vowed to continue representing their interests without compromise.
“I will not betray my people. I will remain committed to delivering the best representation they deserve,” she affirmed.
