Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen reportedly engaged in an attack on a patrol base of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Koko, Kebbi State, resulting in the tragic loss of one officer’s life and the subsequent abduction of another.
The Kebbi State Command of the NCS confirmed the development through a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer, Muhammad Tajudeen Salisu.
The statement noted that the assailants followed the anti-smuggling unit to the Customs base in Koko, where they caused significant damage to the facilities, resulting in the death of Officer Dabo Umar and the abduction of Officer Babagana Abba Kabiru.
Naturenex understands that the remains of Officer Umar were recovered and transported to Kaduna for Islamic burial rites.
In response to the incident, the Command’s Comptroller, Earnest Iheanacho, has extended his condolences to the family of the deceased officer, reassuring them that a comprehensive manhunt has been initiated to ensure the safe return of the abducted officer.
“We will not be deterred or forced by fear to abandon the patrol or the borders; our resolve to stem smuggle at all costs is unwavering despite threats by disgruntled elements,” he said.
As the rescue operations persist, the command assures that updates will be consistently provided.
Also, it strongly emphasized that officers stationed at the borders must uphold a standard of professionalism and consistently utilize all safety measures at their disposal during operations.
