The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued an alert, predicting moderate to heavy rainfall in several parts of the country over the next three days.
Naturenex reports that, according to NiMet’s latest weather bulletin, the rains are expected to start on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, and persist until Friday, May 30, 2025.
States likely to experience the heaviest downpour include Bayelsa, Rivers, portions of Delta, Ondo, Edo, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Imo, Abia, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kaduna, Nasarawa, Kogi, and Niger.
In its forecast, the agency also noted that the rains could be accompanied by strong winds, raising the risk of flash floods in certain areas. Residents of the listed states have been advised to remain alert and take all necessary safety measures.
NiMet cautioned members of the public to avoid driving through waterlogged roads and surface runoff, warning that such waters might carry dangerous undercurrents. It also highlighted the risk of “slippery road surfaces and reduced visibility during rainfall,” which could hamper movement and road safety.
Beyond road safety, the agency encouraged citizens to keep track of weather reports and protect their homes and belongings against potential damage.
