Dr. Isa Ali Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, expressed satisfaction with the considerable progress made in the ongoing NIN-SIM linkage exercise.
The Minister expressed the appreciation of the Federal Government for the dedication that all stakeholders and people have shown.
He further urged all to send their NINs prior to the deadline of 9 February 2021.
Pantami spoke at the end of a review meeting on 18 January 2021, where substantial progress was reported by the Technical Implementation Committee within the Ministerial Task Force in the ongoing linkage exercise.
According to the report, so far, a total of 47.8 million NINs have been collected by the mobile operators.
At an average of three to four SIMs per subscriber, this means that millions of SIMs will be connected before the February 2021 deadline.
The Minister urged the technical team to follow the processes quickly to ensure that the project is delivered as soon as possible.
The Technical Committee drew attention to the Federal Government’s App, which enables subscribers to attach up to seven (7) SIMs to their NIN.
The Minister urged Nigerians to secure and protect their NINs, urged subscribers to avoid selling their NINs, or to allow others to register using their NINs.
“For any act committed with the SIM, good or bad, it will be officially traced and attached to the NIN owner,” the Minister warned.
