Aloy Ejimakor, the lead counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has dismissed reports that his client escaped from the Department of State Services (DSS) custody in Abuja.
Speaking to the Daily Post, Ejimakor stated, “It’s not true. I will be visiting him today by 2:00 pm. Kanu is a responsible and courageous freedom fighter, and he is determined to stay put to fight the injustice within the system, not outside of it. He is too big to contemplate the option of escaping.”
The reports had alleged that Kanu escaped on Thursday along with his case file, with some speculating that the escape had either insider assistance or external support. However, Ejimakor’s statement has debunked these claims.
As reported by Daily Post, efforts to reach the DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, for a comment were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or text messages.
Kanu’s legal team has consistently maintained that their client is being unjustly detained and has called for his release. The IPOB leader is facing charges related to his agitation for a separate Biafran state.
