The NYSC enlightened members of the public on the issue that’s currently trending which is the mobilization of corp members for war of which as a matter of fact Nigerians aren’t finding it funny
Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim who is the incumbent Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps once said corp members are part of the defense policy and if there is any need, corp members can be mobilized for War.
The DG made this statement on the ‘Sunrise Daily’ a program of the renowned television station Channels TV while reacting to issues of scrapping out the NYSC program which is compulsory for all graduates.
In his words
You can imagine within the short three weeks in the orientation camps, the corps members are moulded. They are like soldiers. You see female corps members blowing the army horn, playing with the military band.
So, if not for the knowledge, where are you going to mobilise such young Nigerians to train them quickly to put in their best for the country? “So, corps members are on reserve. They are also part of the national defence policy. Parents should teach their children the spirit of patriotism.”
But in a statement realised by NYSC duel signed by the Public Relations Officer in person of Emeka Mgbemena denied the claimed and the DG was understood out of context
In accordance to his speech “Director-General of the NYSC, General Shuaibu Ibrahim had stated that in line with the National Defence Policy, Corps Members are like soldiers on reserve, because their education, exposure and sophistication, can make them easily adaptable to military training.”
The PRO also made it known that the DG Ibrahim also said corp members should always remain focused and patriotic at all times. He once more cleared the air that the DG at any point didn’t say corps will be mobilized for War and that corp members interest will always be safeguarded.
