Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Babachir Lawal has said that he is surprised he has not being sacked from the party despite his support for Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Naija News recalls that following the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu’s decision to select former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, as his running mate, the former SGF had withdrawn his support, insisting that he was against the APC’s Muslim-Muslim ticket.
Speaking at an interactive session between Obi and north-eastern stakeholders in Abuja on Monday, the APC chieftain insisted that it is mandatory for Obi to win the 2023 election considering the present situation in the country.
Lawal revealed that he plans to migrate to Cameron if Obi loses the election.
His words: “I am in APC and a member of the Board of Trustees of the party, but I am doing the Peter Obi/Yusuf Datti movement.
‘”The APC has not sacked me yet. I don’t know what they are waiting for.
“We want (Obi) to win this election and must win this election. If we lose this election, we’ll all migrate to Cameroon because of the shame and disgrace of failure to win. It is not about whether we have options, Peter Obi must win this election.”
Speaking further the APC stalwart said the country is in great need of a change and he is happy that the chosen one is Obi.
He explained that he is not interested in LP as a party rather his focus is on Obi as the presidential candidate, adding that irrespective of the party Obi is in he would still give him his support.
“I am not interested in LP as a party. I am interested in Peter Obi as a potential presidential candidate. It doesn’t matter which party Peter Obi is, I sense that Nigerians are due for change.
“They have been yearning for change; my own opinion is that Nigeria will vote for anybody as long as he is not part of the PDP or APC,” he added.
