In a recent development, the Nigerian military has expanded its operations in Okuama community, located in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, by increasing the demolition of houses on Wednesday according to Vanguard Newspapers report.
This development follows the recent arrival of three swamp buggies, transported on vessel from the Bomadi axis of River Forcados to Okuama earlier in the week.
Sources within the community revealed that the machinery brought in for demolition purposes has commenced work, resulting in the clearance of nearly half of Okuama’s structures.
However, due to the ongoing demolition, speculation has emerged regarding the military’s intentions for the area.
There are widespread rumors suggesting that the military plans to establish a barracks on the land currently occupied by Okuama community.
A local resident, who doesn’t want his name mentioned highlighted the ongoing situation.
“It is certain that those machines brought to Okuama to ease the task of demolishing and evacuating houses and rubbles have been put to work, and almost half the community has been cleared. The army will certainly build their barracks on the Okuama community soil, and that’s why they are painstakingly using heavy machines in the evacuation of everything in the community. We heard that very soon, the Chief of Army Staff will come to Okuama to flag off the barracks project,” he stated.
