Nigerian Army 8 Division Gets Acting GOC

A newly appointed acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 8 Division and Commander of the Joint Task Force Northwest Operation HADARIN DAJI (JTF NW OPHD) has officially assumed responsibilities.

A statement issued in Sokoto on Tuesday by Lieutenant Colonel Ibrahim Shittu, the director of Army Public Relations for the Division, confirmed that Brigadier General Ibikunle Ajose has officially assumed this role.

During the ceremony held at the Division’s Headquarters in Giginya Cantonment, Sokoto, Brig. Gen. Ajose succeeded Major General Godwin Mutkut, who has been reassigned to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre as the director of Military Technology.

In his farewell address at the 26 Battalion Parade Ground in Giginya Barracks, Major General Mutkut praised the officers and soldiers of the Division for their unwavering support throughout his tenure, urging them to maintain their commitment and discipline.

The former GOC noted that the Division’s area of responsibility (AOR) is familiar to his successor, having previously served as Brigade Commander. He expressed confidence in Brig. Gen. Ajose’s ability to elevate the Division further.

In his remarks, the new GOC and commander of JTF NW OPHD, Brigadier General Ajose, acknowledged the accomplishments of his predecessor and expressed a desire for ongoing guidance. He emphasized his commitment to collaborating with all officers and soldiers to foster lasting peace and stability within the Division’s AOR.

Brigadier General Ajose also extended his best wishes to Major General Mutkut for a successful tenure in his new position.

Prior to his appointment as acting GOC and commander of JTF NW OPHD, Brigadier General Ajose served as the director of administration at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji.

The event featured key highlights, including the signing of the handing and taking over notes, the transfer of the command flag, and a Quarter Guard parade.
