The Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed the only time a police officer has the right to search the phone of anyone.
There have been several allegations about Nigerian police officers stopping people, especially youths, on the road just to search on their phones. This allegation has been generating several arguments as people try to know the position of the law regarding this issue and the right of the police to be checking on people’s phones.
The Police PRO, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made it known while answering questions based on this argument by revealing that the Police have the right to search on people but have no right to search on their phones on the road or anywhere except the phone is subjected to investigation and is a marked exhibit.
He made this statement while noting that at his level in the police force, his function is to teach people the law, its processes, and its procedures and guide them appropriately without sentiments.
