In a tragic incident in the Afashio Community of Uzairue, located in the Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, five people have been found dead under suspicious circumstances.
The tragedy reportedly took place last week, involving four young men and a young woman who were discovered lifeless in a single room.
Family members, alarmed by their absence, checked in on them only to find the group unresponsive.
According to The Punch, local reports indicate that two of the deceased were brothers, while the others, including the woman, were close friends.
A source within the community suggested that food poisoning could be the cause, as the bodies showed no visible signs of injury or struggle.
The incident has been reported to the Jattu Police Division, with families of the victims urgently seeking answers.
Confirming the case, Edo State Police Command spokesperson Moses Yamu stated, “The Command is aware. An investigation to determine the cause of death is ongoing.”
Meanwhile, the Edo State command of the Nigeria Police Force has apprehended two individuals over an alleged link to the kidnapping of a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Thomas Ayode, within the state.
The State Commissioner of Police, Umoru Ozigi, announced the arrest of the individuals on Wednesday while parading seven suspects who had been detained for a range of criminal activities throughout the state.
Ozigi indicated that the suspects were taken into custody for offences including armed robbery, kidnapping, cult activities, and car theft, among other crimes.
