The Emir of Ningi in Bauchi State, Alhaji Yunusa Muhammad Danyaya (OON), has died at the age of 87.
The revered monarch passed away early Sunday morning in Kano, where he had been receiving medical care due to age-related health issues.
His death was announced by the Secretary of the Ningi Emirate, Alhaji Usman Sule, in a statement written in Hausa.
The Emir’s funeral prayer will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Emir’s Palace in Ningi.
Born in 1936 in Ningi, Alhaji Yunusa was a highly respected first-class traditional ruler in the North East Geographical Zone.
During his reign, he was known for his dedication to justice, fairness, and the development of his emirate, which saw rapid transformation under his leadership.
Educated at Ningi Elementary School, Bauchi Middle School, and Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, Alhaji Yunusa had a distinguished career in public administration and the Native Authority (NA) Administration.
He served in various roles, including as a dispenser, councilor, and welfare officer, before being crowned Emir of Ningi in 1978. He was elevated to first-class status in 1998.
Throughout his life, Alhaji Yunusa contributed significantly to national development, earning him numerous awards, including the prestigious Officer of the Order of Niger (OON).
He also served in various organizations, including the Jama’atul Nasril Islam (JNI) and the National Council of States.
The Emir is survived by his family, including his 24 children.
