President Tinubu Returns to Abuja From AU Meeting in Ghana

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived back in Abuja on Sunday evening after attending the 6th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting of the African Union (AU) in Accra, Ghana.

He was received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by senior government officials.

As Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), President Tinubu provided updates on the regional organization’s developments. In his speech, he highlighted ECOWAS’ achievements and challenges, including progress in counter-terrorism, electoral support, economic integration, and humanitarian efforts.

Tinubu showcased ECOWAS’ activation of a Standby Force to counter-terrorism, support for member states in enhancing electoral and governance processes, and implementation of activities to consolidate the free trade area.

He also acknowledged challenges such as multiple threats, terrorism, food insecurity, climate change, and misinformation.

On the sidelines of the meeting, President Tinubu held a bilateral meeting with President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti and agreed to continue working together to advance bilateral interests.
