The Nigeria Parents Forum has requested that the federal government investigate the alleged mobilization of mercenaries and military uniforms in Ebonyi.
Monday Eze, the National Coordinator, stated as much in a statement.
Hundreds of members, youths, and other citizens have been killed, according to the group, since the crisis in Effium erupted in January 2021.
Eze expressed regret that the situation has persisted despite the Federal Government’s peace initiative in the troubled town of Ohaukwu Local Government Area.
He stated that, aside from Effium Urban, Nwekendiagu, Inikiri, Akparata, and a few other locations, security agents assigned to the Effium community do not cover Ibenda, Igbudoke, Ugoeze, Uturu, Agugwu, Umueze, Okporo, and Ameka-Amajim.
Eze speculated that the underutilization of operatives could be to blame for the ongoing killings by “alleged war mercenaries dressed in military and other security uniforms.”
The Forum urged the Federal Government to place security personnel at the remaining identified flashpoints.
“The Nigeria Parents Forum requests that the Federal Government investigate reports of war mercenaries being mobilized into the Effium community via the Okporo Ezzamgbo-Effium axis, as well as the production of military and other security uniforms in Ogbagere and Ibenda villages.”
The statement urged the government, individuals, and groups to provide relief materials to Effium’s suffering people, including women, children, and the physically challenged.
