Protest: Gov Adeleke orders closure of public, private schools

In bid to safeguard the lives and properties of its citizens during the nationwide planned protest scheduled for August 1, the Osun State Government has ordered the closure of all schools in the state.

The order which was handed down by the permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education in the state, Mr. M.A.K Jimoh on Monday evening, directed both private and public schools to proceed on the third term vacation From Wednesday 31st July, 2023

In a public service announcement information in Osogbo, the state government informed the general public, particularly parents, guardians and heads of both public and private schools in the state to take note of the message

The permanent Secretary added that, Parents and Guardians are advised to ensure the safety of their wards during the vacation.

Nigerian Police Deny Imposing 4pm Curfew Ahead Of #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria Protest

The Nigeria Police Force has refuted recent claims that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, mandated a strict 4pm curfew for all protests across the nation.

The denial comes amidst growing concerns and widespread speculations on social media platforms regarding the imposition of the curfew.

Nigerians are mobilising for a nationwide showdown with the President Bola Tinubu’s government over the biting hardship and hunger, tagged #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest slated for August 1 to August 10.

In a statement released, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that no such directive on curfew had been issued by the IGP. 

He explained that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to upholding citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly and protest, as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution.

Adejobi said such information would have been communicated via the official Nigeria Police Force platforms were it true.
